Obituary

Agnes Coleman Gardner, 89 of Steens, MS passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Trinity Healthcare, Columbus, MS.

Visitation will be Monday, February 21, 2022, at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM followed by The Service of Death and Resurrection at 2:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gene Bramlett, pastor of Covenant United Methodist Church officiating.  Interment will be in Egger Cemetery, Caledonia, MS.

Mrs. Gardner was born September 7, 1932, in Monroe County, MS to the late Martha Honnoll Coleman and Henry Grady Coleman.  She was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her husband Billie Oscar Gardner and her brothers Arthur Coleman and Quitman Coleman.

She is survived by her younger brother – Ivy Coleman, Steens, MS, and her daughters – Diane Gardner (Buddy) Baker, Columbus, MS, and Vanita Gardner (Bill) McMullin, Madison, MS; grandsons – John A. (Michelle) Baker, Columbus, MS, and David (Kait) McMullin, Maple Grove, MN; four great-grandchildren – John Lawrence, Trent, Mason and Lilly as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gardner spent most of her adult life in Lowndes County MS; however, she did live in Orlando, FL, and Mobile, AL for brief periods of time.  She was an extremely talented seamstress and made beautiful clothing for her family and friends.  She loved needlework such as embroidery, cross-stitch, and crocheting.  She was known for the beautiful baby blankets she made and gave to new parents.  She also loved gardening, birdwatching, and cooking.  Above all, she was a Bible-believing Christian woman – a kind, loving and gentle soul who always put the needs of others before herself.  Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 – "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."

Pallbearers will be Buddy Baker, John Baker, Bill McMullin, Ricky Gardner, Anthony Gardner, and James Gardner.  Honorary pallbearers will be the caregivers of Trinity Healthcare, Kris Hollis, Benny Coleman, Roy Shepard, Harold Mason, Dr. John King, Dr. James Woodard, Dr. Christina Collins, Dr. Steven Porter, as well as neighbors, friends, and family members.

Memorials may be made to Covenant United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 9552, Columbus, MS  39705.
