A.J. Price took his last breath April 26, 2017, at which time he met his Jesus. He died peacefully at his home. In his last hours, he shared the Great Commission with the youth from Immanuel Baptist Church. More than anyone or anything he loved serving his Father God. He was 95 years old. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017, from 12:00PM-2:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 2:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel Columbus, MS with Bro. Ben Yarber officiating and Bro. Gene Gillis and Bro. Joe Whitt assisting. A private family graveside will follow with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.
Mr. Price was born December 5, 1921, in Lamar County, AL to the late Hosie and Susie Smith Price. He had lived in Columbus, MS for the past 70 years having moved from Vernon, AL. Mr. Price was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Steens, MS where he was a founding member and served in various capacities as a faithful member. A.J. Price served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and upon his return, he attended MSU and received a degree in Medical Technology. He worked for Columbus Hospital, Baptist Memorial Hospital, and Aberdeen Hospital for over 40 years. He touched many lives with his gentleness and love of life. He married the love of his life, Mattie Ray, July 3, 1971, and they were married for 46 years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Price was preceded in death by his daughter Patrice Singler.
AJ Price is survived by his wife, Mattie (Mack) and children, Gary Hartness (Donna) Long Beach, MS, Kenneth Price, Columbus, MS, Jan Giacomo (Mike) Tomball, TX. Darryl Hartness (Tricia), Columbus, MS, Luke Price, Columbus, MS, Candi Vezina (Ralph Estes) Columbus, MS. He has 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Spencer Andrews, A.J. Venzina, Lance Brown, Jason Minga, Jeff Hartness and Jason Hartness. Honorary pallbearers will be Lacy Freeman, Dr. Doyle Sumrall, Bro. Jack Davis, Noah Wyatt and Elijah Wyatt.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 6342 Military Road, Steens, MS 39766.
