Alford Udell Barton, 82 of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Aurora Health and Rehabilitation Center, Columbus, MS. Visitation for Mr. Barton will be Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 1 - 2 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home a funeral service will follow at 2 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Barton was born March 27, 1931 to the late Earnest M. & Tessie Hester Barton in Pickens County, AL and moved to Columbus in 1969. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Columbus, MS and retired from Baldor Manufacturing after 27 years of service. Mr. Barton was a veteran of the United States Army. He was raised on a farm and loved gardening and taking care of his home. Mr. Barton was and avid Alabama football fan and loved cars. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barton was preceded in death by his brother - William Barton, Charlie Barton, Woodroe Barton and step-daughter - Linda Suggs Martinez. Mr. Barton is survived by his wife of 44 years Hazel Barton, Columbus, MS, sons - Larry (Katie) Gordey, Columbus, MS and Victor (Lynn) Suggs, West Point, MS, sister - Clarice Brown, Ethelsville, brothers - Earnest Barton, Jr., Ethelsville, AL and Eugene Barton, Ethelsville, AL, 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Victor Suggs, Jr., Brad Suggs, Jeff Gordey, Josh Gordey, Jake Gordey and Dylan Gordey. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Gordey and Christian Smith.
