Alice Ray Knight Alice Ray Gallop Knight, 90 of Caledonia, MS passed away Monday, May 23, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation was held Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 6 PM – 8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 3 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Westmoreland officiating. Interment will be in Rowan Cemetery, Caledonia, MS; Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mrs. Knight was born July 15, 1920 in the Molloy Community, Lamar Co., AL to the late Chesley Raymond and Alice Landin Gallop. She was a homemaker and previously employed with Linde Air Products in Birmingham, AL, a graduate of Lamar County High School, Vernon, AL in 1939 and Birmingham Business College. She was a great gardener, especially flowers, which she shared with Border Springs Baptist Church quite often where she was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and WMU President. She always supported her husband, Mr. Doyle Knight while he played at the Little Music House every Saturday night. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Knight; sisters, Betty Mae (James) Rambo, Christine (Dallas) Reeves, Emma Lou (Edmond) Reid and brother, James (Mary) Gallop. Mrs. Knight is survived by her daughters, Jackie (Bill) Mixon, Caledonia, MS; Dottie (Benny) Jones, Caledonia, MS; sister, Almarine Waldon, Millport, AL; grandchildren, Melissa (Terry) Hartle, Jeremy (Haley) Jones, Jane Mixon; great grandchildren – Kyle Foley, Cameron Jones, Mackenzie Jones and Kayla Hartle. Pallbearers will be Jeffery Duncan, Harold Partain, John Harvey Partain, Tommy Collier, Bill Hairston, Doug Reeves, Dr. Russell Reeves and Audron Waldon. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and men of Border Springs Baptist Church and Dr. Michael Duckworth.
