Dr. Alonzo Crawford "A.C." Thompson, Jr., 89 of Columbus, MS  passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS.

Dr. Thompson was born June 4, 1928 to the late A.C. Thompson, Sr. and Eliza Ann Prestridge Thompson in Tift Co., Georgia.  He lived in Columbus, MS for the past 34 years and was a member of Prospect Baptist Church, Sulligent, AL.  Dr. Thompson received his PhD from the University of Mississippi and retired in 1986 from the U.S.D.A. where he was a chemist for 24 years.  He enjoyed fishing, cooking, traveling, reading and studying his Bible.  Dr. Thompson was preceded in death by his daughter – Marcie Whalen.

Dr. Thompson is survived by his wife – Arvis Opal Hood Thompson, Columbus, MS; daughters – Linda Odom, Starkville, MS and Ruth Weaver, Columbus, MS; son – Jeffery Webster, Columbus, MS; sister – Gladys Troup, Tifton, GA; 6 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
