Alvis Joel Jenkins, 83 of Steens, MS passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at his residence. A memorial service will be Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church, Columbus with Rev. Diane Lemmon officiating and Rev. Ron McDougald assisting and Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Jenkins was born March 31, 1930 in Pratt City, AL to the late Walter G. and Ruby Lovett Noe Jenkins. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Wesley Church Supper Club, Shriner, Tombigbee Masonic Lodge, Cattleman's Association and Scottish Right. Mr. Jenkins was a self-employed farmer for over 46 years. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War earning commendations: Korean Service Medal, China Service Medal, National Defense Medal and United Nations Medal. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother-Robert E. Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife-Ouida Faye Jenkins, Steens, MS; son-Alvis (Rebeca) Jenkins, Jr., Steens, MS; daughters-Rexene (Garry) Warren, Atlanta, GA and Roxann (James) Storie, Columbus, MS; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and a sister- Melnee Allison, Pell City, AL. Honorary pallbearers will be The Couples Club, Wayne and Emma Stevens and Tombigbee Shriners.
