Obituary

Arthur Anderson Crenshaw, 88, of Columbus, MS, died January 27, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. Visitation will be Friday, February 1, 2013 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Sammy Crawford and Rev. Tommy Gillon officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Crenshaw was born in Collinsville, MS, on August 28, 1924, to Albert and Ida Davis Crenshaw. He met and married Julia Snowden, his bride of 70 years this past September 22. Shortly after their marriage, Arthur entered the Army as part of the 101st Airborne and served in the Battle of the Bulge. After leaving the Army, he worked in Meridian until 1948 when he and Julia moved to Columbus. He worked as a salesman for Ford's Mercantile until he began his own business. He later managed the Singer Sewing Machine Company until his retirement. Always doing something, Arthur coached Mel Ott Baseball in Propst Park and Basketball at the "Y" and went to the State Championship in the 1970's. He also loved to bird hunt, fish and do woodwork. Many people across Columbus have one of his swings or Adirondack chairs. He was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church and especially enjoyed his Sunday School class. In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his sisters, Ulna, Lola, and Gladys, and a brother, James. Arthur is survived by three children, Ann McNees of Columbus, Deborah (Patrick) Stafford of Vado, NM, and David Arthur (Christy) Crenshaw of Huntsville, AL; and 6 grandchildren, Gary (Ann) Johnson, Jeff (Vicki) Johnson, Adam Stafford, Aaron Stafford, Tyler Crenshaw, and Caitlyn Crenshaw; and 2 great grandchildren, Sarah and Joshua Johnson. Pallbearers will be Robert Malone, Gary Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Adam Stafford, Aaron Stafford, Tyler Crenshaw and Joshua Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are the members of Ken Linton's Sunday School Class at Fairview Baptist Church, Joe Atkins , Al McAlexander and Fidelis Sunday School Class.
