Bessie Jean Guin, 80, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at her residence in Columbus, MS.
Visitation will be Friday, March 8, 2019, from 10:00-11:00 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will be Friday, March 8, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS with Bro. Steve Lammons officiating and Bro. Jimmy Ray Assisting. Private graveside service will be in Ethelsville Baptist Church Cemetery, Ethelsville, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS, directing.
Mrs. Guin was born December 1, 1938, in Ethelsville, AL to the late James Donahue Ponds and Nettie Mae Simpson Ponds. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She Loved gardening with her flowers and also enjoyed singing in the choir and baking. Mrs. Guin loved her family, loved everyone and had a generous heart. She was always smiling. Mrs. Guin was a cashier at Big Star, Sunflower and Piggly Wiggly for many years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Guin is preceded in death by her brother, James D Ponds; sister, Sarah Callanan; and her husband, C.L. Shackelford Jr.
Mrs. Guin is survived by husband- Odie Lee "Buddy" Guin, Jr; daughters- Darlene Hill and Lisa (Mel) Brewer; brother-Wesley Ponds; Grandchildren-Tamara Hill, Teresa Hill, Whitney (Bobby) Palmertree, Melissa (Josh) Bowles, and Abby Brewer; great-grandchildren- James, Jamilya, and Jeanetta Nolden, Jobbie Johnson IV, Wynn Palmertree, and Brewer Bowles.
Pallbearers will be Mel Brewer, David Brewer, Bobby Palmertree, Josh Bowles, James Nolden, Jobbie Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Buster Ponds, Donnie Ponds, Jimmy Ponds, Staff of Legacy Hospice, and Adult Seven (Senior Couples Sunday School Class).
