"A mom's hug lasts long after she lets go."- Unknown Author

Bessie Margaret Kemp, 86, Columbus, MS was surrounded by her children and relatives when she sadly left this world and into the arms of God.

Visitation will be Friday, April 12, 2019, at 6:00-8:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home.

Her Parents Rufus and Clara Mae Swedenburg had her at home by a midwife in Eutaw, Alabama on March 29, 1933. She was the first born of three and grew up in Columbus, Mississippi surrounded by many members of her extended relatives. Throughout the years Mrs. Kemp worked for American Trouser, CAFB, Bryan Brothers, and Kmart. Bessie led a life of strength and courage. She would say exactly what was on her mind, and like her opinion, which was strong, she gave the best hugs that you could feel even after she let go. The quote, "A mom's hug lasts long after she lets go," summarizes the essence of her personality. She had a way of wrapping her love around those closest to her, and she would never let you leave her presence without her saying "come hug my neck". Like her hugs, she filled the room with her voice and spirit. She was loyal to those around her and took pride in her family. She was proceeded in death by her sister, Zeta Mae Peralto and two grandchildren, Kevin and Barry Sims.

Mrs. Kemp is survived by her three children, Ginger (Bill) Carol Bussey, Melvin (Beverly) Edward Kemp, and Carl (Kim) Daniel Kemp. She is also survived by her sister Virginia Lee Sellers, four grandchildren, Jason (Erica) Bussey, Emily (Yanni)Tassoulas, Olivia and Abby Kemp, and five great-grandchildren, Jackson, Mason, Allison, and Graham Bussey and Sotirios Tassoulas.

Bessie will be greatly missed by her children, grand and great-grandchildren, relatives, friends, and community. Even though she is no longer with us, her memory is in our hearts, where she will remain.

The family would like to thank Cracker Barrel and all the people that pumped her gas. Dr. Tofts, Dr. Eubanks, Dr. Turner, Dr. Bonetti, and Fairview Baptist Church Family
