Betty Jane Tutor Moore begins her life journey on November 8, 1936, in the town of Water Valley, Mississippi. Mrs. Moore ended her journey of life in Columbus, MS at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT. She was the ninth child born to Ira Marvin Tutor and Era Maude Tutor. Mrs. Moore grew up in and around the Community of Water Valley, MS where she attended school.
Visitation will be December 23, 2016, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS.
Mrs. Moore married her high school sweetheart Benny Ray Moore on September 1, 1952. They moved to Houston, TX where she met President Eisenhower in the courthouse in downtown Houston. They moved to Memphis, TN where she worked at Goldsmith's Department store until 1954 when her husband entered the United States Air Force. For the next 20 years, she worked a number of jobs at each Air Force location where she and her husband were assigned. During this time she also was a housewife and a loving, caring mother to their two children.
Upon their retirement from the Air Force and moving to Columbus, MS, Mrs. Moore worked at Mitchell Engineering for two years. She then worked as a loan officer at the Columbus Air Force Base Federal Credit Union for 15 years. During her tenure at the Credit Union, Mrs. Moore was recognized as an outstanding loan officer and awarded several certificates of achievement. She was well liked by her peers as well as her customers. Even after her retirement, her customers would ask for her services when applying for loans. In addition to her work she still maintained her duties as a mother and housewife to her family. Mrs. Moore and her husband enjoyed their relationship with all of their friends. Her enthusiasm for travel was not as great as her husband's, but she was always willing to travel with him to wherever he wanted to go. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her husband as well as working in their yard. Mrs. Moore enjoyed the company of her children and grandchildren, which were the blessings of her life. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her three brothers-Frank Tutor, Herman Tutor, and John Harvey Tutor; three sisters-Margie Weaver, Dorothy Dibble and Hazel Taylor.
Mrs. Moore is survived by her devoted husband-Benny Ray Moore, Columbus, MS; daughter-Pamela (Walter) Wickham, Columbus, MS; son-Kevin (Lauri), League City, TX; She was an affectionate and loving grandmother to Jeremy Wickham (Di), Starkville, MS; Benjamin Moore, League City, TX; and Adam Moore, League City, TX. She is also survived by her sister-Georgia Roberts, Searcy, Arkansas; her brothers-JW Tutor, Water Valley, MS and Leslie Tutor, Southaven, MS.
Pallbearers will be Virgil Beaty, Jeremy Wickham, Benjamin Moore, Adam Moore, Dale Guadagno, and Jim Napier.
