Obituary

Betty Kilgore McElrath,64, of Columbus, MS passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at her residence.

A graveside service will be Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 3:00  at Forest Cemetery, Ethelsville, AL with Dr. Bill Hurt officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.

Mrs. McElrath was born on April 1, 1956, in Jacksonville, AR to the late Arthur R. and Iris White Kilgore.  She loved the Lord, previously served as a Sunday school teacher, Awana teacher, and sang in the choir for many years at Woodland Baptist Church and a current member at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. McElrath worked at the Lowndes County Sheriffs Department for 23 years as an Administrative Assistant. She was a loving mother, spouse, grandmother, and a great friend to many. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McElrath is preceded in death by her brother- James Kilgore.

Mrs. McElrath is survived by her husband- John McElrath of Columbus, MS; son- Christopher Shaw of Atlanta, GA; daughters- Jenifer Cooper of Starkville, MS and Sarah Reedwood of Pace, FL; grandchildren- Caleb Cooper, Ethan Cooper, Abagail Barton, Zoe Barton, and Lily Cooper; brothers-Richard Kilgore of Jasper, GA and Ron Fisher of Alexander, AR; and sister- Carolyn Elam of Aberdeen, MS.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Regina Owens, Gayle Thomas, and Mary Hampton.
