Betty Jo "Honey" Stokes, 85 of Columbus, MS passed away Monday, January 28, 2019, at Sanctuary Hospice, Tupelo, MS.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 31, 2019, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Stokes was born December 12, 1933, to the late Covington Matt and Robbie Farr Jones in Columbus, MS. She worked as a secretary with Tower Loan and Republic Finance for over 40 years. Mrs. Stokes was a member of Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Columbus, MS. "Honey" enjoyed spending time with family especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also loved cooking fried chicken, biscuits and homemade applesauce. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stokes was preceded in death by her infant sister – Mary Jones, grandson – Kenny Hatcher and her uncle – Charles Farr.
Mrs. Stokes is survived by her daughter – Mona Kay (Billy) Heath, Columbus, MS; sons – Walter "Butch" (Lilliana) Stokes, Dallas, TX and Gary Alan (Johnalee) Stokes, Niceville, FL; 12 grandchildren – Kevin Charles Hatcher, Katie Jo Honsinger, Catherine McGrinn, Matt Stokes, Alan Stokes, Zach Stokes, Roli Gonzalez, Sebastian Gonzalez, Amanda Ramsburg, Jennifer Heath, Tristan Nessel and Brendan Nessel; 16 great-grandchildren and Aunt – Frances Farr.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be neighbors – John and Don Gilmer, Frank Lockhart, Frank Griffin, and Miller Griffin.
Memorials may be made to Caledonia Elementary School, 9509 Wolfe Rd., Caledonia, MS 39740.
