Obituary

Billy "Bill" Clinton Scarboro, 85 of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be Monday, February 27, 2023, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Woodland Baptist Church, Columbus, MS.  A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM with Bro. Kevin Jenkins officiating.  On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, there will be a visitation at The Grace Place, Brunswick, GA from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM with Ron Scarboro officiating. Interment will follow at Brunswick Memorial Park, Brunswick, GA with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Scarboro was born September 16, 1937, in Emanuel County, Ga to the late Ivey "Tom" Wright Scarboro and Irene Boatright Scarboro.  Mr. Scarboro worked as Plant Controller with Babcock and Wilcox for 38 ½ years, never missing one day of work. His years with B & W took him from Brunswick, Ga to Paris, TX, and later to Columbus, MS where he retired from the West Point, MS plant. He loved all of the many co-workers he worked with over the years. He was loved and well respected by all. He was known for his humble and kind spirit. He found the positive and good in all situations. Following his retirement from B & W, he moved on to owning his own car business. He always had a passion for cars and people. His car business gave him many more years of happiness. His failing health in the last several years is the only thing that kept him from continuing to work at his lot. He was very loved by his wife, children and all of his family and friends. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. His family can rejoice in knowing that he is in Heaven and completely healed.

Mr. Scarboro is survived by his wife of 65 years – Evelyn Drury Scarboro, son – Garry (Penny) Scarboro daughters –Vickie (Mike) Covington, Melissa (Ted) McDonald, and Karen (Terry) Fitch,; grandchildren – Lindsay (Jonathan) Lewis, Alicia (Michael) Saunders, Christopher (Christy) Covington, Andrew Covington, Emily McDonald, Madison McDonald, Austin Fitch, Davis Fitch, Tara (Chad) Mavromat and Eric (Megan) Morris; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters – Elise Smith, Janette Howard, Carolyn Jones, and Mary (John) Waters; brothers – Ken (Mary Ann) Scarboro and Ron (Deborah) Scarboro and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Covington, Andrew Covington, Austin Fitch, Davis Fitch, Mike Covington, Ted McDonald, and Terry Fitch.  Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Jordan, Dale Henry, and the deacons of Woodland Baptist Church, Columbus, MS.

The family would like to thank Legacy Hospice for their care during this time.
