Obituary

Robert (Bob) D. Taylor died peacefully August 31, 2025, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth, MS surrounded by his loved ones.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church, 3000 Bluecutt Road, Columbus, MS.  The funeral service will be Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church with Pastor Bobby Douglas and Bobby Sanderson officiating.  Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery where all are welcome.

Bob was born in Santa Monica, California on April 19, 1942, to the late John Herman Taylor and Dorothy McCarthy Taylor.  While growing up, Bob spent his summers in Mobeetie, Texas with his aunt and uncle on their dairy farm. He graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1960. After figuring out college wasn't for him, he decided to enlist in the Air Force where he served from 1964-1968.  The Air Force was actually how he ended up in Columbus, MS and on October 27, 2011, they made him an honorary command chief and wingman.

Bob owned and operated the Holiday DX Service Station and then the Holiday Chevron Service Station and Wrecker Service from 1978 until 1987. He opened Bob's Towing and Autobody in 1988.  The name was later changed to Bob's Paint and Autobody and stayed that way until he retired in 2021.

Bob always had a project going on and loved staying busy.  His biggest project to date was found at Pickwick Lake in Iuka, MS.  There he developed his land and opened Chalk Creek Cabins.  He loved being in the country with the lake right at his fingertips.

He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Columbus, MS, but was attending Grace Chapel in Pickwick where he was very active and involved.

In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his two brothers, John Michael Taylor and William (Bill) Taylor, and Robbie's mother- Jean DiCicco Taylor.

Bob is survived by his two sons - Robbie (Jenny) Taylor of Columbus, MS and Jason Taylor of Denver, Colorado; and grandchildren - Cross Taylor, Maggie Taylor, Ash Taylor, Harper Taylor and Leah Boyer. He is also survived by Janice Taylor who he spent 48 ½ years of his life loving and building a beautiful family with.

Pallbearers will be Cross Taylor, Sonic Johnson, Dr. John Stanback, Tim White, Mike Gray and Kevin Phillips.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Ash Taylor, Dennis Erby, Sam Suggs, Chuck Cook, and Josh Frady.

No matter where Bob was, he made friends.  With a smile that could light up the darkest room, he was genuinely someone that was loved by everybody. Wherever he went, he was always willing to help anyone and everyone that needed it. After hearing of his death, one of his friends said that another legend is gone. No truer words have ever been spoken.
