Obituary

Bobby Ward, 93, affectionately known as "Pop," passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford, MS.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 12:30 PM-2:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel with Bro. Sammy Crawford and Bro. Tommy Gillon officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Bobby worked for Tennessee Gas Pipeline, beginning in Greenville, MS, and transferred to Columbus, MS in 1959. He served in the USAF during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant. Additionally, he was a Mason. He was also an active member of Fairview Baptist Church where he previously served as a deacon and usher. Bobby enjoyed, for many years, early morning coffee club meetings at Hardee's. His friends knew him as considerate, loyal, and generous. His family was blessed to have experienced his generous love and kindness throughout his life. Bobby enjoyed keeping up with his grandchildren by sending and receiving pictures on his iPhone.

Bobby is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ward; brothers, Markham Ward, Billy Ward, Warren Ward, and Doyce Ward, and his sisters, Bell Martin, Ruby Flanagan, Mamie Johnson, and Margie Ward.

He leaves his daughter, Debbie Ward Maher of Columbus, MS; son, Jimmy Ward of Tupelo, MS; grandchildren, Amelia Ward (Alex) Bailey of Tupelo, MS, Harris Ward of Starkville, MS, David (Sara) Maher of Montclair, NJ, and Heather Maher of Phoenix, AZ; 3 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Virgie Ward of Jackson, MS.

Pallbearers will be Ted Burns, Harris Ward, Jamie Bailey, Alex Bailey, Jimmy Woodruff, and Craig Barfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Sunday School Class, The retired Men's Coffee Club, former and present employees of Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co., Troy Whitten, Ralph Blackstock, Dr. Doug Hill, Roland Hill, and Jim Faust.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; Fairview Baptist Church Children's Ministry, 127 Airline Rd. Columbus, MS 39702 or to an individual's choice.
