Obituary

Jimmy Edward Cooper, 73 of Columbus, MS passed away, Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at Sanctuary Hospice House, Tupelo, MS.

Visitation will be Friday, March 1, 2019, from 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS.  A funeral service will be at March 1, 2019, at 2:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robert Gillis officiating and Bro. Ben Yarber assisting.  Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Bro. Cooper was born January 15, 1946, to the late Kermit and Mary Jane Moody Cooper in Columbus, MS. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Bro. Cooper was a member of Stateline Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. Bro. Cooper served as a Pastor at McBee Baptist Church, Columbus, MS, Magnolia Baptist Church, Columbus, MS, and Associate Pastor/ Family Pastor at Stateline Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. He also served as a Family Pastor at Canaan Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. He was an active player and umpire in softball.  He loved fishing, hunting, bowling, witnessing for the Lord to anybody he met.  Bro. Cooper especially enjoyed visiting and ministering to people in the hospital. He also sang with the group New Harvest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son – Jonathan Cooper and his brother – Gary Cooper.

Bro. Cooper is survived by his wife – Wanda Hollis Cooper, Columbus, MS; sons – Lance Cooper, Columbus, MS, Todd (Nadia) Cooper, Eugene, OR and Ronny Cooper, Northport, FL; daughter-in-law – Melissa Cooper; grandchildren – Samara Cooper, Ben Cooper, Lola Cooper, Jacob Cooper, Nayimah Raza-Cooper, Kenny Cooper and Kaitlyn Cooper; sister – Sheila (Jerry) Robinson, Fernbank, AL; sisters-in-law – Pam Cooper, Millport, AL and Mary Jane Hollis, Como, MS.

Pallbearers will be Michael Shelton, Scott Sanderson, Joe Yearby, Troy Gibbs, Arnie Johnson, Ryan Munson, Joel Cosgrove, and Thad Moody.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Stateline Baptist Church and the Staff of Sanctuary Hospice House.
