Bud Lambert

Oakley Judson Lambert (Bud), 79 of Columbus, Mississippi, passed on September 14th at his home with his family close by.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Vernon Church in Columbus, MS. The funeral service will be Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Vernon Church in Columbus, MS with Bro. Brandon Allen officiating. Graveside will follow. Lowndes Funeral Home is entrusted with all arrangements.

Bud was born October 10, 1946, in West Virginia to the late Oakley Judson Lambert, Sr. and Virginia Porterfield Lambert. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy. Bud served 24 years in active duty, early flying reconnaissance over Vietnam and later as a flight instructor. After retiring, Major Lambert continued teaching as a flight simulator instructor for another 20 years. Bud was a faithful and active member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Bud was called as an adult Sunday School teacher, a job he loved for many years. Bud Lambert loved his God, his family, his country, his dogs Lexi and Belle, and books about history. In addition to his parents, Bud is preceded in death by his sister, CallieRuth Camp.

Left in cherished memories are his sons and grandchildren: son, Judson Lambert; grandchildren, Will and Ensley; son, Josh Lambert; and son, Johnny (Brittany) Lambert, and grandchildren, Bryce and Davis. Bud’s brothers and sisters were among his favorite people. They will sorely miss him at future family reunions: Juddylee and Troy Holbrook of WV, Sam and Barbara Lambert of CO, Sally Dillon of VA, Josh and Donna Lambert of CO. Dozens of nieces and nephews will, too, miss their “Uncle Bud.” Bud’s extended family and best friends, Larry and Ruby Joblin, will feel the harsh loss of him daily and special connection with Bud.

Pallbearers will be Will Lambert, Bryce Lambert, Davis Lambert, Larry Joblin, Josh Sansing, Mike Clark, Justin Frasier, Bruce Frasier, and Justin Willis.
