Carl Ruehling, 76, passed away on Sunday, May 05, 2019, at his residence in Steens. Visitation will be held at 6:00pm on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Lowndes Funeral Home, with Funeral Services to follow at 7:00pm from the funeral home Chapel, with Bro. Benton Goodman officiating and Jerry Mays assisting. Private interment services will be held from Piney Grove Cemetery.
Born May 18, 1942 in Laager, TN, to the late Eathel Edgar and Laura Mae Caldwell Ruehling. He joined the United States Air Force in 1960 and served as an Airman, First Class, and was the recipient of the Commendation and Good Conduct Medals. In September 1963, he married the love of his life, the former Ellen Berryman. Mr. Ruehling worked as a Civil Servant with the United States Military at Columbus Air Force Base until his retirement in 1988. He was a Baptist by faith, and served as a Sunday School Teacher for over 33 years. He was a member of Vernon First Baptist Church, Vernon, AL. He loved being outdoors, and was known for his beautiful flowers and his large vegetable garden. He was a faithful and devoted husband, he enjoyed being a caretaker and tending to most of the cooking and cleaning for his family. He was a loving and doting "Daddy" to his two daughters. His quick wit and humorous disposition will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him most.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Brother Robert Edgar Ruehling.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Ellen B Ruehling; two daughters: Judy Ellen R. (Michael) Watkins of Carrolton, AL, and Eva Marie R. (Darrin) Black of Columbus, MS; grandchildren: Bailey Pitts, Will Pitts, Molly Katherine Watkins, Laura Elisabeth Black, Sarah Black, Matthew Black and Tori Allen; 4 great grandchildren; and siblings: Willie Mae (Hobert) Henry, Nellie Marie Scissom, Betty Louise (Douglas) Jones, Deborah Ann (Ted) Thomas, Chester Lee (Syble) Ruehling and William Henry (Cheryl) Ruehling.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Adam Ruehling, David Jones, Michael Jones, Douglas Jones, Ted Thomas, John Scissom, Dennis McCool, Tommy Garrett, and Jerry May's Sunday School Class, Vernon First Baptist Church. The family also wishes to extend their deepest thanks and appreciation to Melissa and Ed Jordan, Betty Jones, Judy and Tom Younger and Yvonne Key.
