Carl David Strickland, 89 of Columbus, MS passed away March 29, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 1, 2017, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS.  A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS.

Mr. Strickland was born September 11, 1927, to the late Noah E. and Sally Severt Strickland in Sciotoville, Ohio and moved to Columbus, MS 26 years ago from Moreauville, LA.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy.  Mr. Strickland was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Columbus, MS where he was an elder for many years. He retired in 1990 after 35 years as an operating engineer with Al Johnson Construction Co. After four years of retirement, he went to work for John Holliman Construction where he retired in 2012.   Mr. Strickland was a loving husband to his wife Bettie E. Heuer Strickland for 67 years, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his children – Vicki Lyn Strickland, Dennis Craig Strickland, and Donnie Carl Strickland; brothers – Herbert Strickland and Graham Strickland.

Mr. Stickland is survived by his wife – Bettie E. Strickland, Columbus, MS; daughters – Cheryl D. (Robby Shimp) Abernathy, Columbus, MS, Donna Strickland, Columbus, MS; daughter-in-law - Linda Strickland, Calhoun, GA; sons – Ricky D. (Patricia) Strickland, Hamilton, MS and Harry Randall "Randy" Strickland, Columbus, MS; grandchildren – Brian Rowley, Victor (Amy) Strickland, Crystal Strickland, Amber (Jacob) Hester, Brandy (Jason) Lucas, Justin (Wanda Meyers) Abernathy and Micheal (Ashley) Tedford; great-grandchildren – Taylor Rowley, Brooke Scott, Jacey Ciaravino, Autumn Lucas, Jakob Hester, Wesson Lucas, Lindsey Strickland, Megan Strickland, Carter Tedford, Ian Meyers and Destanie Shimp; sisters – Juanita Boseman, Marion, OH, Barbara (Bob) Smith, Greer, SC and Judith (Jay) Raker, Franklin, TN.
