Obituary

Carol Ann Moore Blount passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, after a long illness.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Memorial Service will be Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS, with Todd Mordecai officiating.

She was born October 16, 1936, in Washington, D.C., to Thomas Ivan and Nancy Elizabeth Moore. Growing up, Carol moved all over the country living in sixteen different cities before she turned eighteen.

In 1957, while working as a secretary for the Army Security Agency, she checked in a new employee – Sergeant Douglas Mitchell Blount - who ended up being the love of her life. This September would have marked 68 wonderful years together.

Carol and Doug built a loving family, raising a son and a daughter and making a home wherever life took them—Liberty and Campbellsville, KY; Bettendorf, IA; Starkville, MS; Springfield, VA; Roswell, GA; and finally, Columbus, MS, where they settled in 1984. Over the years, Carol worked for the Mississippi University for Women and the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway Development Authority.

Carol was passionate about reading and could often be found with a book or her Kindle in her hand and passed her love of books down to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church for over 40 years where she taught youth Sunday School and helped start and run the church library for many years. After retirement, Carol volunteered as a member of the Friends of the Columbus Lowndes Public Library.

Carol was an avid gardener and filled her home with colorful houseplants and her yard with flowers and bird feeders.  She looked forward to the holidays and loved decorating for every holiday and changing season.  She could also be counted on to give gifts and send cards for every occasion. Carol loved nothing more than gathering her family together for celebrations.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sheila Holsinger; brother, Michael Moore; and her beloved aunt and uncle, Bruce and Margaret Martin.

She is survived by her loving husband, Doug; her daughter, Laure Bell (Jeff) of Starkville, MS; her son, Scott Blount of Memphis, TN; and her cherished grandchildren: Nicholas Bell and Patrick Bell (Samantha) of Huntsville, AL; Carson Blount and Kate Blount of Memphis, TN; and Christopher Bell of Starkville, MS. She also leaves behind her brand-new great-granddaughter, Charlie Bell of Huntsville, AL, as well as her much-loved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Friends of the Columbus Lowndes Public Library https://www.lowndeslibrary.com/clplsfriends.
