Carolyn Margaret Von Kanel Guist, 95 of Columbus, MS passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021, at Vineyard Court Nursing Center, Columbus, MS.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Rev. Curtis Bray officiating and  Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Guist was born November 1, 1925, in Helena, Arkansas to the late Paul and Rosena Plattner Von Kanel.  She was a member of Schaeffer's Chapel United Methodist Church, Columbus, MS.  Mrs. Guist was a retired secretary with the Civil Service, she enjoyed bowling and being league secretary for many years.  She loved singing and was song director at Deerbrook and Shaeffer's Chapel.  Mrs. Guist was a great cook and made the world's best pecan pie!

Mrs. Guist was preceded in death by her husband – Simon Guist; daughter – Marlene Nanney; sister – Pauline Butler; son-in-law – Stan Riddle and brothers – Lewis Von Kanel, Edmond Von Kanel, Ernest Von Kanel, William Von Kanel, and Herman Von Kanel.

Mrs. Guist is survived by her daughter – Teresa "Terry" Riddle, Columbus, MS; son – Dr. Steven (Deborah) Guist, Columbus, MS; son-in-law – Bill Nanney, Phoenix, AZ; and was a loving "Meemaw" to 5 grandchildren – Karen(Christopher) Meinerz, Steven (Jessica) Riddle, Kevin (Jackie) Nanney, Carley (Ryan) Cutler and Neil (Lori) Riddle; 11 great-grandchildren – Betsi Cate Riddle, Tyler Nanney, Katie Nanney, Simone Meinerz, Tatum Meinerz, Ella Clare Riddle, Eli Cole, Emmett Cyle Riddle, Emma Caroline Riddle, Clara Jade Cutler, and Chloe Zeppos.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Experienced Citizens Bowling League, Members of Shaeffer's Chapel, Ronald Karg, Rick and Edna McGill, Jamie and Elizabeth Lott, David Butler, Carey Butler and Eddie Von Kanel.
