Charles Lane Delk, 79 of Steens, MS passed away Wednesday, June 04, 2014 at his residence. There will be a Graveside Service Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 6 PM at Lone Oak Church of Christ Cemetery, Steens, MS with Mr. Elbert Wheat officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Delk was born April 11, 1935 in Lamar County, AL to the late Claude and Sennie Seals Delk. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed sitting on his porch looking out over the lake while spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed golfing but his passion was gold panning which he did from Georgia to Alaska. He was a former police officer with the Columbus Police Department and the owner of Delk's Sports Center. He retired from Beloit Manhattan at age 62. In addition to his parents, Mr. Delk is preceded in death by his wife-Marilyn Curtis Delk and brothers-Maurice and Larry Joe Delk. Mr. Delk is survived by his wife-Shirley Taggart Delk, Steens, MS; daughters-Sherri (Billy) Dawkins, Steens, MS and Angie (Dudley) Reeves, Columbus, MS; sons-Allen (Julie) Delk and Scott (Pam) Delk both of Columbus, MS; step daughter- Rene (David) Jackson, Columbus, MS; brother-Donald Delk, Columbus, MS; grandchildren- Penny (Terrell) Wallingford, Tam (Amy) Gray, Kristy (Lucas) Smith, Maribeth (Alex) Holliman, Jennifer (Fred) Lovett, Julie Delk, Josh Delk and Kayla (Louis) Alexander and 11 great-grandchldren. Pallbearers will be Louis Alexander, Billy Dawkins, Josh Delk, Tam Gray, David Jackson and Dudley Reeves. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Joel Abbott, Dr. Lance Busch, Charles Bridges and Baptist Memorial Hospice Team.
