Charles Arden Smith, 81 of Columbus, MS passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at Mississippi State Veterans Home - Oxford, MS. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Billy Abrams officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Smith was born August 10, 1933 to the late Jessie Clyde & Ruby Kendrick Smith in Starkville, MS. He was a self-employed Paint Contractor for 60 years. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the United States Army and a talented woodworker and painter. He enjoyed remodeling antebellum homes in Columbus, MS and metal detecting. Mr. Smith loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife - Vira Carolyn Edwards Smith, brother - Billy Smith and great-grandchild - Emma Faith Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his daughters - Mary Katherine "Kay" (Thomas) Davidson, Columbus, MS, Lorrie (William) Abrams, Birmingham, AL; son -Charles Eddie (Sally J.) Smith, Kodak, TN; sisters - Bonnie Yessak, Shirley (Maurice) Adams and Louise Ming; a host of nieces and nephews; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Wesley Smith, Chris Koenig, Ben Davis, Max Branch, Donnie Smith and Tom Davidson. Honorary pallbearers will be Lamar Smith, Jason Pike, Dr. Brett Brown, Dr. Brad Brown and Staff of Camellia Hospice in Oxford, MS.
