Clarence Lamar Harper, 81 of Columbus, MS passed away, Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. Visitation for Mr. Harper will be Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM and Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will be Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Sammy Crawford and Bro. Tommy Gillon officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Harper was born September 6, 1932 to the late Wesley Quinton & Eloise Long Harper in Chunky, MS. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and loved to attend worship services. Mr. Harper was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the American Legion Post #69. He was employed as a bus operator for Trailway and Greyhound Bus Lines for 34 years where he received several awards including Million Mile Safety Award, Silver Stripe award with a bus named in his honor and later a plaque for 30 years of safe driving. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his sister - Helen Everett and brothers - Leslie Quinton Harper and Cecil Joseph Harper. Mr. Harper is survived by his wife Mary Jane Avera Harper, Columbus, MS; daughter - Cheryl Leigh Harper, Birmingham, AL; son - Kenneth Lamar Harper, Columbus, MS, granddaughter - Loreleigh Natalia Harper; nephews - Phillip Harper, Michael Everett, Timothy Everett. Pallbearers will be Joe Hendrix, Charles Stafford, D.R. McElhenney, Bobby Ward, Jim Faust, Everett Pennington, and Blake Jernigan. Honorary pallbearers will be Former Trailway employees and their spouses and James Oliver's Sunday School Class.
