IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dale
Thompson
December 4, 1934 – June 12, 2025
Dale Leon Thompson, 90, of Columbus, Mississippi, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025, at his residence.
A visitation will be held at Lowndes Funeral Home on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Jim Futral officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Military Honors.
Dale was born on December 4, 1934, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, to the late William Fines Thompson and Martha Lucille Thompson. He was the beloved twin brother of the late Don Thompson. The two were inseparable in life, serving side-by-side for many of his 25-year career in the United States Air Force. Dale retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, having been stationed in locations across the U.S. and overseas, including Guam, before settling in Columbus in 1979. He continued his military Civil Service for 18 years, retiring from Columbus Air Force Base Fire Department.
He was married for 65 years to the late Mary Ann Thompson, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, travel, and laughter. Dale was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a deeply loved grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a longtime member of McBee Baptist Church and a faithful presence in the lives of those who knew him having served as a deacon in various churches since 1966.
While his service and devotion were steady and strong, Dale will be just as fondly remembered for his twinkling eyes, wide grin, and sharp sense of humor. He had a way of making people feel instantly at ease—always ready with a story, a joke, or a warm smile. His joy was contagious, and his presence brought comfort and laughter to everyone around him. He enjoyed camping, yard work, sitting on his porch, his church and family.
Dale is survived by his daughter, Paticia Ann Thompson – (Robbie) Mitchell of Birmingham, AL; grandson – Michael Steven (Haley) Thompson; great-grandchildren – Easton and Lynnlee Thompson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann, son Mike Thompson, his twin brother Don, his brother Wayne Thompson, his sister Fern Leyva, and and six half children (Badley).
Dale leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and kindness. His memory will live on in every laugh shared, every lesson passed down, and every family gathering filled with joy and humor.
Pallbearers will be friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to McBee Baptist Church Building Fund.
