Dan W. Southerland, Jr. Dan W. Southerland, Jr. 86 of Columbus, MS passed away, Monday, July 25, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. Visitation for Mr. Southerland will be Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 6 - 8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services for Mr. Southerland will be Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 2 PM at Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Tyler Reed, officiating, Bro. Mickey Dalrymple & Bro. Sammy Crawford assisting. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Lowndes Funeral Home, directing. Mr. Southerland was born February 5, 1925 in Starkville, MS to the late Dan W. Southerland, Sr .& Ruth Phelps Southerland. He lived in Columbus his entire adult life. Mr. Southerland served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where he was a greeter, member of Ray Crosby's Sunday School Class and a member of 55+. He enjoyed working in the yard and spending as much time as possible with his family. He retired in 1992 as a salesman after 25 years of employment and worked for West Brothers Construction until present day. In addition to his family, Mr. Southerland was preceded in death by his first wife - Alva Smith Southerland, brother - Lavelle Southerland and sisters - Estelle Studdard and Pauline Roberts and great-granddaughter - Elizabeth Joy Williams. Mr. Southerland is survived by his wife, Lona M. Southerland, Columbus, MS, daughters, Ann Southerland, Madison, MS, Margaret (Butch) Reed, Joy (Steve) West, & Pete Williams, all of Columbus, MS. Grandchildren, Jason (D.J.) Williams, Stephanie (Richard) Gregg, Stacie (Rob) Winklepleck, Tyler Reed and Betsy Reed. Great-grandchildren - Hope Williams and Steven Gregg and niece - Rita (Joe) Douglass. Pallbearers will be Tommy Spruill, Bill Andrews, Ray Guy, Lamar Jones, Mark Jones and Scott Shuttleworth. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steven Gregg, Richard Gregg, Rob Winklepleck, Jonathan Guerry, Mike McReynolds, Will McReynolds, West Brothers Construction and HydroVac Industrial Services employees, Ray Crosby's Sunday School Class, Dr. John Cooksey, Dr. Jan McClanahan, Dr Robert Voller, Dr. Harry Richardson, Baptist Memorial Hospital CCU & ER Staff.
