David Ralph Bailey David Ralph Bailey, age 72, died July 23, 2011 at his home in Columbus, MS. Mr. Bailey was born July 7, 1939 to Jackie Louise Littlejohn Bailey. He was raised by his loving grandparents, Buster and Cora Brummette Littlejohn. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his first wife, JoAnn , his mother and step-father, George Clapp. He is survived by his wife, Jean Bailey of Columbus, MS; brother, Roger Clapp of Clifton Springs, NY; sisters, Roberta (Scott) Bruculere of Las Vegas, NV, and Marie Clapp of Lady Lake, FL; sons, David Bailey, Jr. (Julie) of Dallas, TX; James Scott Bailey of Jiaxing, China; Scott Gerhart of Columbus, MS, and Nace Gerhart of Euless, TX; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. David was a member and Deacon of First Christian Church, and was retired after 31 years with the U.S. Postal Service. He found pleasure in restoring motorcycles and tractors. After his retirement, he drove 18-wheel trucks for a number of years, and told people he was able to tour the entire United States that way. He and Jean have owned C.W.L., a commercial lighting business since Sept., 1995. He played banjo, mandolin, and guitar, and enjoyed Bluegrass music. Visitation is Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Services are Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Archie Taflinger, officiating and Bro. Charlie Whitney, assisting. Interment is in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers are Charlie Carter, Rice Glover, John Gore, Joe King, J.T. Lancaster, and Buddy Shelton. Honorary Pallbearers are Larry Ferguson, Bryant Benton, Ralph Youngblood, Roy Smith, Cliff Jones, Elders and Deacons of First Christian Church, Howard Duzan, Mick Wilson, Sammy Townsend, Charlie Whitney, Tommy Southerland, and Buddy Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, 811 N. McCrary Rd., Columbus, MS 39702 or donor's choice.
