Obituary

David Allen Lawrence, 75 of Ethelsville, AL passed away, Friday, January 10, 2014 at Regency Hospital, Meridian, MS. A funeral service will be Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 2:00 in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS with Bro. Robert Hurst officiating. Interment will be at TabernacleCemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Lawrence was born May 3, 1938 to the late Leslie and Margaret Lawrence in East St. Louis, IL. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from S.D. Lee High School in 1956. Mr. Lawrence completed Millsaps College and Emory University School of Theology in 1963. He was a United Methodist minister for 50 years and served churches in Holston Conference of East Tennessee from 1964 - 2002. Mr. Lawrence and his wife retired to Ethelsville in 2002. He served Romulus UMC in Tuscaloosa County two years, Andrews Chapel and Sandy Springs Church in Gordo, AL. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lawrence was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Dr. Donna L. Neilan and brother - William L. Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence is survived by his wife - Louise Lowry Lawrence, Ethelsville, AL; son - Steven Lawrence, St. Petersburg, FL; daughter - Helen L. Freeman, Dayton, TN; sister - Jeanne Atkins, Ethelsville, AL; sister in law - Carla Lowry of Georgetown, TX; brother - John Lawrence, LaGrange, Ga; 4 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Alan Youngblood, Charles Speed, Paul Atkins, Tims Dowdle, Terry Patrick, Wayne Bryan, Jim Godwin and Danny Atkins.
