David "Dave" Parrish Columbus – David "Dave" Parrish, 78, died Sept. 26, 2011 at his residence. Visitation will be at Lowndes Funeral Home at 2 p.m., Sunday Oct. 9, 2011 with a Memorial Service following at 3 p.m. with Chaplin Markette Rogers officiating. Dave was born Dec. 8, 1932 in Lonoke, AR to the late Barney David & Rilla Hamilton Parrish. He was veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the AKA104 Cargo Ship during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, 2 Bronze Stars, United National Medal, and the National Defense Medal. Dave moved to Columbus in 1965 where he was employed by Wamsley Bearing Company of Memphis, TN and retired in 1995 from Dixie Bearing Co. of Columbus. Dave's favorite hobby was training and riding horses and his favorite horse was Eagle, an appaloosa he rode for 20 years. He also enjoyed boxing and represented his ship while in the navy having no losses out of 21 bouts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Colleen Van Rossum of CA. he is survived by his wife, Virginia Parrish of Columbus; daughter, Elaine Parrish of Columbus; son, Phil Parrish of Puerto Rico and sister, Helen Lingo of Columbus.
