Donald Clarence Janssen, 76, of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT.

A visitation will be Sunday, March 14, 2021 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS. Memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Gene Bramlett officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Janssen was born on July 25, 1944, in Adrian, MN to the late Tena Dammer Janssen and Clarence Janssen.  Don worked in the meat industry a long time starting at the young age of 19 at Armour in Worthington, MN on the ham bone line, and over the years he worked his way up into management and across the United States working for serval different meatpacking plants that eventually landed in him in Mississippi.  Those companies included Wilson Foods in Oklahoma, Lauriston Foods in Iowa, John Morrel Foods in South Dakota and Kansas, Bryan Foods in Mississippi, and Smithfield and Gwaltney Foods in Virginia.  He served in the National Guard. He loved to golf, fish, coon, and go deer hunting.  He loved to go camping and most recently was a member of the Good Sam Club. He was a MS State fan, a Christian, and had served on the board of trustees at Covenant Methodist Church. He loved his family and was very proud of his 3 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Janssen is preceded in death by his sister- Carol Schnepf.

Mr. Janssen is survived by his wife- Phyllis Heidebrink Janssen of Columbus, MS; daughter- Pam(Billy) Scott of West Point, MS; son- David (Rebecca) Janssen of Columbus, MS; brothers- Arnold Janssen, and Marvin (Marlene) Janssen both of GA; grandchildren- Morgan Scott, Dylan Scott, and Elizabeth Janssen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jason Dunn, Dr. John Whitecar, Rufus Beason, Allen Heidebrink, Howard Ferguson, Jerry Wiertzema, and L.C. McGee.
