Dorothy E. Gillis, age 94, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Dr. Breck Ladd officiating. Interment will be in Beersheba Cemetery with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Gillis was born on April 20, 1923, in Andalusia, AL to the late Yancey Marion and Mollie Mae Brunson Everage. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. Mrs. Gillis was the owner of Stateline Flower, Gifts and Antiques, and was one of the founders of the New Hope Band. She was devoted to worldwide missions to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gillis was preceded in death by her husband- Wattie Eugene Gillis, Sr.; brother- Roy Everage; a sister; Rea Weaver; and her son- Frederick Gillis.
Mrs. Gillis is survived by her sons- Joseph "Joe" (Betty) Gillis of Columbus, MS, Gene (Myra) Gillis of Columbus, MS, Walter (Kathy) Gillis of Jackson, MS, and Robert (Flora) Gillis of Columbus, MS; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters- Emma Jean Self, and Patsy Hargrove.
Pallbearers will be Lee Gillis, Rex Gillis, Jon Gillis, Josh Gillis, Greg Caston, and Bill Littlejohn. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Trinity Healthcare, Dr. Stanback, Dr. Woodard, and Dr. McClanahan.
