Dorothy Delia Thigpen Smith 69 of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, MS. Visitation will be Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will be Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS with Bro. Breck Ladd officiating and Bro. Tommy Gillon assisting. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Smith was born June 7, 1945 to the late Handley G. and Dorothy Gates Thigpen in Jackson, MS and moved to Columbus 48 years ago from Starkville, MS. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS and Kappa Teaching Sorority. Mrs. Smith retired in 2007 from New Hope Elementary School where she taught for 29 years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her step-father - C.D. Modisette. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband - Wayne Smith, Columbus, MS; sons - Chip (Ginger) Smith, Scott Smith and Bryan (Candace) Smith all of Columbus, MS; brothers - Dan (Lisa) Modisette, Clinton, MS and Mikal Modisette, California; grandchildren - Kelsea Smith, Brant Smith and Brylee Smith. Pallbearers will be Chris O'Brian, Whitt Schwalenberg, Derek Lowery, Tim Younger, Tommy Massey and Shelley Woods. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Bozeman, Archie Moore Sunday School Class.
