Douglas A Collum, 74, of Ethelsville, AL, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS.
Mr. Collum was born on June 28, 1948, in Franklin County, AL to the late Delmar Collum and Lurline Heavner Collum. He served his country in Army where he was stationed in Vietnam during the war. Mr. Collum also worked in the construction industry as a carpenter. For many years he was a member of the State Line Hunting Club. Riding his property on his John Deere Gator was a favorite pastime. He was also an avid fan of Alabama football "Roll Tide!" In addition to his parents, Mr. Collum is preceded in death by his son – James Benefield.
Douglas Collum is survived by his wife – Sarah Collum; daughters Suzanne Ballard of Stockton, AL, and Beth (Tim) Pless of Caledonia, MS; sisters – Jimmie Collum Roper of Columbus, OH, Renee Collum of New Berlin, NY; brothers Charles Collum of Borrego Spring, CA and Frank Collum of Ethelsville, AL; grandchildren Brittany (Chris) Lewis, Christopher (Mallory) Benefield; great-grandchildren – Cali Lewis, Cayson Benefield, Averie Benefield, Remi Lewis, Jaxon Benefield; and numerous aunts uncles and cousins. Mr. Collum also leaves behind a loral white german shepherd, Saban.
