Edward Lavern Cowart Mr. Edward Lavern Cowart, 73 of Columbus, MS passed away, Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. Visitation for Mr. Cowart will be Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Lowndes Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Cowart was born March 21, 1940 to the late Lester and Mary Alice Robinson Cowart in Pickens County, AL. He moved to Columbus 30 years ago from Carrollton, AL. Mr. Cowart retired in 2002 from Ceco Buildings as a welder after 40+ years and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed sports especially Alabama Football, car racing and riding 4 wheelers. Mr. Cowart loved spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Cowart is survived by his wife of 48 years Faye Oglesby Cowart, Columbus, MS, son – Edward Lavern "Vern" (Menissia) Cowart, Caledonia, MS, sisters – Betty Jourdan, Lofton Peeks, Sue Plyman and Deline Brown, brothers – Owen Cowart, Fred Cowart and Tommy Cowart, grandchildren – Chad Cowart and Madeline Cowart. Pallbearers will be Wayne Parker, Bobby Cowart, Michael Oglesby, Jeff Oglesby, Terry Jourdon and Ronnie Shaw.
