Obituary

Elizabeth Lucille Kidd Vaughn of Caledonia, Mississippi passed away at the age of ninety-one on January 01, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus MS.

The family has planned a private memorial service for the immediate family members this Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 1:00 PM, but extended family and beloved friends and neighbors are invited to watch the service online at www.lowndesfuneralhome.net

Lucille born April 15, 1930, to Annie Maude "Muttie" Spruill Kidd and William Maborn "Pop" Kidd II, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She married Jeptha Mark Vaughn, also of Caledonia, Mississippi, and together they moved to New Orleans, Louisiana following Jep's return from military service.  They had two children: Mark Anthony and Melanie Kay Vaughn.  In New Orleans, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn taught Sunday School at Downman Road Baptist Church and were lifelong active members as the church grew to become Lake Forest Baptist Church. Also, having attained her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Lucille taught for 25 years in the Orleans Parish Public School system where she made many friends and touched the lives of many students before retiring.  Having lost her beloved husband at the age of fifty-one, and retiring years later from the Orleans Parish school system, Lucille returned to Caledonia—her ancestral hometown—where she lived with her sister Bessie Mae until Bessie Mae's passing in 2007. Granny, as she was adoringly known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveled into her late 80's across the U.S. and to Europe to attend her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's weddings, college and professional school graduations, and other life events.  After not being physically able to travel anymore, she looked forward to frequent visits, photographs, cards, videos, and virtual video chats.  She proudly displayed and kept memorabilia handy to show her guests.

Mrs. Vaughn is survived by her children, Mark and Melanie Vaughn, six grandchildren, Olivia, Jeptha, Charlotte, Donald, Dominic, and Danielle, and eight great-grandchildren, Beaux, Sophia, Vivian, Madison, Donald IV, Ariel, Smyth, Crosby. Lucille is also survived by her sister, Laurene Kidd Robinson, brother, James Edison Kidd, and numerous adored nieces, nephews, and caring friends and neighbors.

Lucille's sisters and brothers she has reunited with in heaven include, William Maborn Kidd III, Frances Kidd Duncan, Bessie Mae Kidd Vaughn, and Annie Ruth Kidd Swain.

The family wants to express their deep appreciation to Lucille's former daughter-in-law Pamela Windham Colson for her long-time relationship and devotion to "G".  Mrs. Vaughn will be interred with her husband at Lakelawn Cemetery in Metairie, LA at a later date.
