Mr. Flay R Mordecai, 87, of Caledonia, MS, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle.
Visitation will be 10:30-12:00 PM, Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, Ms. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Poplar Springs Primitive Baptist Church, Vernon, AL, with Elder James Howard officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Interment will be at Poplar Springs Cemetery, Vernon, AL.
Mr. Mordecai was born on March 7, 1935, to the late Margie Frances Campbell and John Thomas Mordecai. He was a member of the Poplar Springs Primitive Baptist Church and retired from Columbus Marble Works. Mr. Mordecai loved to garden and doing yard work. He also loved Alabama football and would count down the hours until each game. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters – Eva Ozema Malone, Hazel Axemaker, Leona Faye Striplin, Shirley Weaver, and Sue Pennington; and a brother – Berry Mordecai.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Victoria (Worthy) Mordecai; son – Gregory Mordecai; daughter – Rhonda (John) Russell; 2 grandchildren, and a sister – Martha Perry.
