George Dink Marshall, 73 of Columbus, MS passed away, Friday, August 9, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital- Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. Visitation for Mr. Marshall will be Monday, August 12, 2013 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jim Ray, officiating and Bro. Billy Little assisting. Interment will be in Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery, Ethelsville, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Marshall was born October 28, 1939 to the late Roy C. and Loventrice Holley Marshall in Fernbank, AL. He moved to Columbus, MS 69 years ago from Fernbank, AL, was a member of the VFW and attended McBee Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. Mr. Marshall was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he played baseball and had professional offers to play for St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers. He retired from Omnova in 2001 after 38 years of service as a final inspector. Mr. Marshall loved antiques, refinishing furniture and auctions. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife Edith Murlyene Marshall in 2000. Mr. Marshall is survived by his daughters - Edith (Larry) Marshall, Columbus, MS, Darlene (Todd) Maestretti, Braxton, MS, Leesa Marshall (Daryl) Bell, Ethelsville, AL and Dolores (David) Flippo, Alabaster, AL, son - George (Marilyn) Marshall, Jr., Columbus, MS, sisters - Dot Hammond, Reform, AL, Jean Robertson, Columbus, MS, Lucy Bailey, Maryville, TN, brothers - J.E. Marshall, Haleyville, AL and Bobby Marshall, Columbus, MS, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and special recognition to Robbie Ray whom he "loved like a son." Pallbearers will be Doug Robertson, Dale Tucker, Dennis Tucker, Danny Roy Tucker, Murry Henry and Ken Mason. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Brown, Sr., Fred Hall and Dr. Doyle Sumrall.
