Harold Cooper Atkins, 84 of Columbus, MS passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at his residence. Visitation will be Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 12 - 2 pm at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kyle Walker officiating and Rev. Diane Lemmon assisting. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mr. Atkins was born April 28, 1929 in Pickens County, AL to the late Oakley P. and Juanita Cooper Atkins. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. After 55 years of service, Mr. Atkins retired from Johnson Tombigbee as plant manager. He enjoyed gardening, was a Alabama Football Fan and coached Dixie youth baseball in Propst Park leading his allstar team to the world series. Mr. Atkins loved his family. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife Gladys Atkins. Mr. Atkins is survived by his daughters- Glenda (Billy) Bozeman, Columbus, MS, and Kathryn (George) Stevens, Southaven, MS; son-Philip (Lynn) Atkins, Columbus, MS; grandchildren- Jonathan (Vanessa) Bozeman, Janet Bozeman, Lauren (Kyle) Walker, Justin Atkins, Courtney Atkins, George Stevens and Madison Stevens; great grandchildren- David Bozeman, Andrew Bozeman, Jayden Atkins, Arianna Young, Taylor Grace Walker; brothers- Kellum Atkins, Sandusky, OH and Larry (Cammie Lou) Atkins Birmingham, AL; sisters- Anne Harris, Nell Trapp and Barbara (Scott) Murrah all of Columbus, MS. Pallbearers will be Mike Crowder, Ricky Crowder, Jimmy Parker, Donnie Jones, Jonathan Bozeman, Justin Atkins and Brad Fleming. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Atkins, Dr. Robin Campassi, Jimmy Hughes, Reau Berry, Dr. James Woodard, Dr. Terry Westmoreland, Bob Gray and Willie Jones.
