Obituary

Harold Frank Schrum, 90, of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Monday, February, 24, 2014 from 12-2 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will follow on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 2 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Sammy Crawford officiating and Bro. Tommy Gillon assisting. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Schrum was born April 21, 1923 in Maiden, NC to the late Hiram Jake and Maude Abernethy Schrum. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. Mr. Schrum received multiple awards, including Red Cross Volunteer of the Year (Lowndes County) in 1993, Retired Senior Volunteers Program Volunteer of the Year in 1997, and Who's Who in the Golden Triangle (Community Service) in 2001. He served in the Army Air Corps and United States Air Force from 1943 to 1968, during World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam. Mr. Schrum worked at General Tire and Rubber Company from 1969-1973 and Civil Service at Columbus Air Force Base from 1973-1984. He was a part of many volunteer organizations including Retired Senior Volunteers Program, Military Retiree Office, Columbus Welcome Center, and American Red Cross, where he served as a member for 20 years. Mr. Schrum was the past president of the Columbus Shrine Club and the Columbus Lions Club and the past master of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife - Arlene Alois Schrum and brother - Garmon Schrum. Mr. Schrum is survived by son - Steven Charles (Marian) Schrum, Fayetteville, NC; daughter - Rebecca J. (Christopher) Pinelli, Denver, CO; brothers - Vernon (Nancy) Schrum, Wayne (Ruth) Schrum and Bobby Nelon (Joanne) Schrum; sister-in-law - Betty Schrum; grandchildren - Brian Scott Schrum and Jared Alexander (Jaime) Schrum; and great grandchildren - Hallie Schrum, Charlie Schrum, and Maggie Schrum. Pallbearers will be Craig Barfield, Doug Crowe, Wes Jones, Christopher Pinelli, Brian Schrum, and Bobby Ward. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ken Linton Sunday School Class, Roland Hill, Dr. Doug Hill, Bill Nadeau, Grady Partain, and Buck Hildreth. Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church Mission Fund, 127 Airline Road, Columbus, MS 39702, Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, or New Journey Church, 3123 New Hope Rd, Columbus, MS 39702.
