Laura Hazel Brown, 88, of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT, Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Saturday, October 31, 2015 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Frank Porter, Jr. officiating and Bro Tommy Gillon and Bro. James Walden assisting. Interment will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Kennedy, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Brown was born August 8, 1927 to the late Wilson Gilreath and Laura Estes Gilreath in Lamar County, AL. She moved to Columbus from Belk, AL and has lived in the area for over 60 years. Mrs. Brown was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, the 55 Plus Ministry and Pat Wallace's Sunday School Class at Fairview Baptist Church. She enjoyed word puzzles, dominoes with her friends at Trinity, sewing; and she was a great cook. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband-Willie Brown. She is survived by her daughters-Reba (Frank) Porter, Columbus, MS; Cathy (Warren) Kreun; GA; and Susan (Raymond) Rivers, Calera, AL; grandchildren-Frank Porter, Jr., Randy Porter, T.J. Kreun, Libby Kessler and Hannah Rivers; great grandchildren-Caden Porter, Grayson Porter, Bishop Porter, Caden Kreun, Kyleigh Kreun, and Gavin Kessler. Pallbearers will be Wayne Gilreath, Tommy Brown, Danny Thompson, Bill Welch, Billy Gilreath, and Phillip Caldwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle Brown, Don Miller, T.J. Kreun, Warren Kreun, Staff of Fairview Baptist Church, Staff and Friends at Trinity Independent Living, and East Columbus Medical Clinic.
