Hazel Mae Smet, 71 of Columbus, MS passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 12 – 2 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS with Bro. James Gardner officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mrs. Smet was born August 30, 1941 in Tuscaloosa, AL to the late James Sanders and Dorothy Peavy. She was a resident of Columbus, MS for the past 60 years having moved from Fayette, AL. Mrs. Smet enjoyed crocheting, cooking, sitting with the elderly, and dancing at The Junction. She was a great mother and a loving person. Mrs. Smet attended Living Faith Tabernacle, Columbus, MS. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smet is preceded in death by her mother – Audrey Sanders; brothers – Billy Sanders, Bud Sanders, Tommy Sanders, Jerry Sanders; sister – Jeanette Clemmons and one grandson – James Samuel Barksdale, Jr. Mrs. Smet is survived by her daughters – Dorothy (Sammy) Barksdale, Steens, MS, Mary (Harold) Shriver, Columbus, MS; sons – James Lee (Cynthia) Harrison, Frankie (Debbie) Harrison, Larry Harrison, Cecil Harrison, Chad Harrison, all of Columbus, MS; sisters – Betty Honeycutt, Jenelle Colts, Wanda Stines, Sue (Lindale) Foster, Theresa Elmore, Myrtle Posey, Shirley Howard, Sarah Smith, Carolyn Davis; brother – Pat O'Bryant, Milton Peavy; grandchildren- Lee Harrison, Mary Ann Willock, Robert Willock, Bobby (Ashley) Barksdale, Wally Willock, Reed Harrison, Hunter Harrison, Cameron Shultz, Olivia Shultz, Natalie Shultz, Callie Harrison and Sadie Harrison and 14 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Glenn Baldwin, Mark Baldwin, Michael Foster, Zack Traweek, Jason Plyman, and Glenn Herron. Honorary Pallbearers will be Shift 1B and 2B from Lowndes County Adult Detention Center and Terry Houston.
