Horace Clayton Mathis, 82, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 11:00am-1:00pm at Lowndes Funeral Home.

Mr. Mathis was born March 24, 1937, in Clarke County, MS to the late Clayton and Eleanor Mathis. He served his country while enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. He had worked in Maintenance at Bryan Foods in West Point until his retirement. After his retirement he was able to enjoy a simple life at home on his farm, where he was most happy. Mr. Mathis enjoyed tinkering with his tractors, farm life, cows and especially his horses. A devoted husband, spending time with his wife on the farm was his greatest joy.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann Mathis in 2012.

He is survived by daughters: Jennifer Fraysur, Christy Waddell, Wendy Daughtery and Alicia Mathis; step-daughter: Jennifer Long; sisters: Jo Ann Todd and Mary Pilgrim; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
