Hubert Eastland Sledge Hubert Eastland Sledge, 76, of Columbus, MS passed away, Friday, December 30, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle, Columbus, MS. Visitation for Mr. Sledge will be Sunday, January 1, 2012 from 5 – 7 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be Monday, January 2, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Edward Knox officiating. Interment will be in Murrah's Chapel Cemetery, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, directing. Mr. Sledge was born March 22, 1935 to the late Corbin and Lillie Mae Hardin Sledge in Sunflower County, MS. He moved to Columbus in February, 1956 from Ruleville, MS. In May 1956 he married Martha Ann Hayes. He worked for Greif Brothers Container Corp. in the J.R. Ribel Steel Division for 36 years. He also worked in the Delta in agriculture. He was a member of Plymouth Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. He was committed to God and witnessing. Mr. Sledge enjoyed hunting, fishing, and automobile and agricultural museums. He had lots of family and friends, was a good father, loving husband and caring grandfather. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sledge was preceded in death by his sisters – Mary Lee Burchfield, Mabel Wise, Mazel Williams and Lillie Faye Sledge – twin sister to his brother Prentiss, Brothers – Stacy Sledge, James Winford Sledge, J.C. Sledge and Larry Sledge, Daughter – Cynthia Eileen Spangler. Mr. Sledge is survived by his wife of 55 years – Martha Ann Sledge, Columbus, MS, Sons – Billy Wayne (Sue) Sledge, Coldwater, MS, Raymond Wallace (Margie) Sledge, Ethelsville, AL, Daughter – Katherine Jeneen (Jeff) Walker, Palm Harbor, FL, Brother – Prentiss (Sadie) Sledge, Lancaster, SC., 12 Grandchildren, 18 Great-grandchildren and 3 Great-great grandchildren and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Memorials may be made to French Camp Academy, One Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745
