Ila Yerby Ila Banks Yerby, 80 of Caledonia, MS passed away, Saturday, February 11, 2012 at her residence. Visitation for Mrs. Yerby will be Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 6 – 8 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services for Mrs. Yerby will be Monday, February 13, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Wood officiating and Bro. Michael Lee assisting. Interment will be in Furnace Hill Cemetery, Vernon, AL with Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Yerby was born May 8, 1931 to the late John Thomas and Mary Frances Perkins Palmer in Lamar County, AL. She retired in 1994 from Caledonia Manufacturing as a seamstress. Mrs. Yerby moved to Caledonia over 50 years ago from Prentiss, MS, she was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, Caledonia, MS. Mrs. Yerby sold Avon for 12 years and made the President's Club of Avon for 11 years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Yerby is preceded in death by her son – George Lee, sister – Annie Allen, brothers – Richard Palmer and Gayner Palmer. Mrs. Yerby is survived by her husband – Sidney Yerby, Caledonia, MS, daughter – Shirley (Woodrow) Lee, Sumrall, MS, son – Clyde Edward (Jeanette) Lee, Columbus, MS, sisters – Millie Barham, Columbus, MS, Inor Whitaker, Vernon, AL, Tommie White, Columbus, MS, brother – Larry Palmer, Denver, CO, 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Travis Lee, Casey Lee, Tim Manning, Blake Manning, Edward Barham and David Gaddy. Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons of New Salem Baptist Church, Wood Lee, and David Guyton.
