Irene Beatrice McCaughey, 93 of Columbus, MS passed away Thursday, June 06, 2013, at Trinity Healthcare, Columbus, MS. A memorial service was held Saturday, June 08, 2013, at 2 PM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel, Columbus, MS with Rev. Tony Proctor officiating. Mrs. McCaughey was born November 02, 1919, in Manchester, CT to the late Alfred J. and Sara H.E. McCloughlin Burns. She moved to Columbus in 1997 from Manchester, CT and attended First United Methodist Church, Columbus, MS. Mrs. McCaughey retired in 1993 as a site manager for Westhill Gardens Senior Citizen Center. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society, Grange #3 in Manchester, CT, Manchester Senior Citizens Center, and the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Club. Mrs. McCaughey enjoyed collecting, especially antiques, reading, and cooking, especially baking. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McCaughey is preceded in death by her husband – Francis McCaughey and son – William E. Lockwood. Mrs. McCaughey is survived by her son – Walt (Shelia) Lockwood, Columbus, MS; grandchildren – Walter Lockwood, Jr., Scott Lockwood, William Lockwood; and great-grandchildren – Garrett Lockwood and Ryan Lockwood.
