Jack D. Alford, 92 of Columbus, MS passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at his residence. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Wilbur officiating and Lowndes Funeral Home directing. Interment will be in Old Union Cemetery, Fayette, AL. Mr. Alford was born May 18, 1921 in Prichard, AL to the late Joseph Dewitt and Ruby Lee Wilson Alford. He married Jo Nell White August 6, 1948 in Winfield, AL. They moved to Columbus from Huntsville, AL in 1975. Mr. Alford was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Columbus Country Club. He was a graduate and a fan of the University of Alabama. Mr. Alford was a Civil Engineer and worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for over 30 years. Mr. Alford is survived by his wife-Jo Nell White Alford, Columbus, MS; son- Jack (Lisa) Alford, Jr., Tuscaloosa, AL; daughters-Rebecca (Joe) Ready, Westminster, MD and Marilyn (Lance) Bennett, Cleveland, TN; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 515 N. Lehmberg Rd., Columbus, MS 39702.
