Jack Murphy, 91, of Alabaster, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Birmingham VA Medical Center.

Graveside Service will be Monday, September 1, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 1383 Pleasant Hill Road, Columbus, MS 39702. Visitation will follow after the Graveside Service at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall. Lowndes Funeral Home is entrusted with all arrangements.

Mr. Murphy was born May 26, 1934, in Fernbank, Lamar County, Alabama, to the late Elmer Murphy and Sarah Brewer Murphy. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Columbus, MS.  Mr. Murphy was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked in flooring and installation as the owner of Murphy Carpets. In addition to his parents, Mr. Murphy is preceded in death by his wife, Melvalene R. Murphy, son- Gerald Anthony "Tony" Murphy; twin brother- Jim Murphy; brothers- Elmer "Bo" Murphy and Johnny Murphy, and infant sister.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his daughters- Sarah "Liz" M. Thompson and Buffy Murphy; grandchildren- Angela T. (Kevin) Clark, Julie-Anna Murphy, Joseph (Haley) Murphy, Vaughn M. Phipps, Sarah M. (Justin) Maynard and Ruby Thompson; great grandchildren- Sarah Clark, Landon Clark, Cole Murphy, Grey Murphy, Owen Murphy, Caroline Murphy, Henry Phipps, and Edgar Phipps; sister- Hazel M. Colvin; brothers- Gene Murphy, and Phillip Murphy.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Murphy, Kevin Clark, Shawn Winn, Barry Winn, and Landon Clark. Honorary Pallbearers will be Birmingham VA Home-Based Primary Care, Birmingham VAMC Safe Harbor Care Unit, and Columbus Lodge #5.
