Obituary

James Cumberland, 81, of Columbus, MS, passed away Monday, May 27, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, GT in Columbus, MS.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Service will be Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 12:00 P.M. at Lowndes Funeral home, Columbus, MS. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens, in Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Cumberland was born in Philadelphia, MS to the late Helen Ruth Hendrix Cumberland and Thomas Alvin Cumberland. Mr. Cumberland worked at Columbus Glass and later retired at  Columbus/Greenville Railroad and then later worked at American Glass. He was a member of Living Faith Tabernacle  in Columbus, MS., and was also a member of Odd Fellows Lodge in Columbus, MS.  Mr. Cumberland enjoyed fishing and he loved to play music in his free time. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cumberland is preceded in death by his wife- Delta Kennedy Cumberland; daughter- Martha Sharp; sister- Ann Palmer; brothers- Darnell Cumberland; Thomas Cumberland, and David Michael Cumberland.

Mr. Cumberland is survived by his Spouse- Jean Jaynes;  son- Dwight (Anita) Cumberland; grandchildren- Jonathan (Lyndsay) Cumberland, Whitney Sharp, and Daniel Sharp; great-grandchildren- Olivia Cumberland and Elizabeth Cumberland; and sisters- Linda Glass and Nita (John) Moore.

Special Honorary Pallbearer- Waylon Porter Bailey.
