Obituary

James Graham Hawkins, 84 of Columbus, MS passed away, Sunday, August 04, 2013 at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, MS. Visitation for Mr. Hawkins will be Monday, August 5, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Sammy Crawford officiating and Bro. Tommy Gillon assisting. Interment will be in North Raleigh Cemetery, Raleigh, Smith County, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Hawkins was born April 4, 1929 to the late Walter and Bessie Boykin Hawkins in Raleigh, MS. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hawkins received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Samford University in 1964 and then moved to Columbus to open his own Drug Store, Hawkins - Rexall Drugs in East Columbus. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, the Lions Club, American Pharmacy Association and the Mississippi Pharmacy Association. Mr. Hawkins was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 69. He retired in 1995 and then served as a bailiff at the Lowndes County Courthouse. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his sister - Mary Cole, brother - Ralph Hawkins, John G. Hawkins, Gaynell Hawkins, Hillard Hawkins, Kelly Hawkins and Donnie Hawkins, grandson - Cooper Graham Collins. Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife Nina Lee Horn Hawkins, Columbus, MS, daughters - Beverly Randall, Southhaven, MS and Kimberly (Danny) Delk, Jackson, GA, brothers - Robert Hawkins, Shreveport, LA and Mack Hawkins, Raleigh, MS, grandchildren - Shaula (Stewart) Skelton, Lauren Hankins, Mitchell Collins, and Leah (Matt) Siegel, great-grandchildren - Kaelin Free, Gracyn Hankins, Karsyn Skelton and Barrett Skelton, Step-grandchildren - Brittney Skelton and Courtney Skelton. Pallbearers will be Dan Wrather, Glendal Reid, Grady Randall, Mitchell Collins, Matt Siegel and Danny Delk. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Hawkins, Sheriff Bailiffs at Lowndes County Courthouse, James Hargett Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church Building Fund, 127 Airline Rd., Columbus, MS 39702.
