James "Jim" Tommy Kimbrell, 79, of Columbus, MS passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo, MS.
Visitation will be Friday, January 24, 2020, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at First Pentecostal Church at 501 N. Lehmberg Road, Columbus, MS. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Tommy Galloway officiating and Rev. Steve Blaylock assisting. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens, Columbus, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing.
Mr. Kimbrell was born July 29, 1940 in Macon, MS to the late Tommie Jackson and Jewel Jones Kimbrell. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Columbus, MS where he was an active member, a lifetime board member and former song leader. Mr. Kimbrell had attended Word of Life Church in Tupelo, MS since moving to Tupelo in 2017. He served in the United States Army as a PFC and was a Quartermaster and expert marksman. Mr. Kimbrell enjoyed reading history and military books. He cut hair in 1960's as a licensed barber and later worked for United Technology in Columbus, MS for over 35 years. Mr. Kimbrell married his wife Annie Mayzel Tullos Kimbrell on March 7, 1964, and loved her dearly even after her passing in 2011. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his sons, sister and grandchildren. To say that Mr. Kimbrell was an avid Alabama fan is an understatement- Roll Tide. In addition to his wife and parents he is preceded in death by his nephew- Jim Porter Garrett.
Mr. Kimbrell is survived by his sons- James T. "Tim" (Barbara) Kimbrell of Columbus, MS, Richard "Ricky" (Annette) Kimbrell of Tupelo, MS; grandchildren- James "Timmy" (Ashley) Kimbrell, Jr., Katie Kimbrell, Zachary Kimbrell; great grandchildren- Kaiden James Kimbrell; sister- Brenda (Lynn) Garrett; niece- Becky Smith; nephew- David Garrett.
Pallbearers will be Tim Kimbrell, Ricky Kimbrell, Timmy Kimbrell, Zachary Kimbrell, Lucas Smith, David Garrett, Katie Kimbrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Jr Cook, Dr. Brad Crosswhite, Rev. David Edwards, Tanya Johnson with Earth Angelz, Sanctuary Hospice Staff, First Pentecostal Church of Columbus, MS.
